Right Package, Wrong Baggage Gets 4.5 Stars

Below is the 4.5 star review from RAWSISTAZ:

Before Pamela Roberts got married, she knew her future husband lied and cheated on her. She was young and naïve, and had forgiven him many times because she was in love with him. She thought the birth of their son, Matthew, would stop his philandering, but she found herself constantly alone and without support. The shame she felt and the mental abuse she suffered sent her on a reckless journey to ease her pain. Six years later, a single mother and a Christian, Pamela is happy with her life. She has a nice home, a rewarding job, and a lovable six-year-old. She prays to God to bless her with a man to love and to have that love reciprocated. When Matthew offers Micah Stevenson to his mother as a present to be her future husband, her prayers were answered. Micha, too, prayed to God for his soulmate and the three of them seemingly become a perfect family until Micah reveals his past; then everything crumbles.

Emotions soar on every page in RIGHT PACKAGE, WRONG BAGGAGE. The characters are challenged with trust issues as well as being self-absorbed and judgmental. Ms. Campbell’s plausible novel held my interest to the very end, which I was disappointed to see happen.

Loving What I Do

I love what I do! I simply adore the gift God has assigned to me: that of writing and speaking.  The past few weeks along my literary journey have been spectacular. In fact, any and every opportunity that I am allowed to live my dreams now is awesome. Many of you know that as Christian fiction authors we are held accountable for what we say, what we do and most definitely what we write.  Our stories have touched, healed, delivered, redeemed and changed lives of many of our readers.  That along is enough to be grateful to God because He is the one who has embedded this gift into our spirits. He is the one who does not allow the words we write to return void.

Readers, I am truly humbled by your support of my work. I was recently honored with the Pink Diamond African American Literary Award by Sistahfriend Bookclub in Columbia, South Carolina.  Sistahfriend Bookclub was represented by chapter members from as far away as the Bahamas. I was presented this prestigious award along with other notable authors like Mary Monroe, Virginia Deberry and Donna Grant, Rickey Teems, Brian Smith, Thomas Hundley and others.  I still cannot stop praising God for His good and perfect gifts. It is an indescribable feeling to have this award bestowed upon me: a Christian fiction author.  In a day and time when the belief of Jesus Christ is often ridiculed, it’s like breathing in a sudden burst of fresh air when we are recognized for the stories we write.

I recently attended the first Mid-South Booklovers’ Conference in my hometown of Memphis, Tennessee. Again, I had a fantastic time. Bookclubs from all over the mid-south attended the event sponsored by author and fellow Memphian Alisha Yvonne. I was shown much love from the bookclubs.  Many of them came clutching copies of my books for me to personally autograph. Others took time to share with me how much they could relate to the characters in my books. Still others stood in line to purchase my newest release, My Son’s Ex-Wife:The Aftermath and previous titles.

All in all I thank YOU, the readers of the Urban Christian titles.  I believe I can say for each one of the UC Authors, that we truly do appreciate YOU; we appreciate your dedication; we appreciate your support and we appreciate your belief in our literary work! May God bless each one of you individually and the families you represent.

Guest Blog Post – The Revelation by Wanda B. Campbell

A few months ago as I rested on a park bench along the shoreline, a young girl’s cry interrupted my thoughts.

“Ew gross!” the child shrieked.

I turned in the direction of the disturbance, thinking perhaps another squirrel had fallen victim to the elements again. Imagine my surprise when I followed the child’s finger to a caterpillar feeding on a leaf.

I watched whom I assumed was the child’s mother, direct the little girl back onto the walking trail. As they disappeared I thought, in a few months that child will think that same caterpillar is the most beautiful butterfly. Once the caterpillar hibernates inside its cocoon and metamorphosis takes place, that same little girl will have no memory of the black and yellow fuzzy creature that didn’t appeal to her. What she will see and admire is the colorful fluttering beauty.

As I walked home the revelation hit me full force. In the beginning our lives are like the caterpillar’s. Due to our circumstances, and sometimes due to our actions, we aren’t presented in the most appealing light. We carry scars and hurts that may cause us to appear “gross” to others.

Then our Heavenly Father comes along and cocoons us in His love; and we metamorphous into His beautiful colorful child. We fly. We soar. The best part is when we emerge, all of our past mistakes, the shoulda, coulda, and woulda’s are over. The past is left behind and the Father never reminds us of our life in darkness.

I am so grateful to the Father for clothing me in His garments. My daily prayer is for His love to illuminate from me to others so that when people look at me, they don’t see the residue of my past. I want them to see God’s colorful handiwork.

Midwest Literary Feast hosted by Joylynn M. Jossel

Mother of Murdered Son Says He’s Still Alive

Columbus, OH  (October 12, 2010) – When Deborah Morgan purchased a ticket to the Midwest Literary Feast 2010 that was held on October 2, 2010, she was prepared to indulge in a smorgasbord of literary delights. She had no idea she would end up serving up the main course.

For the third year, Columbus, Ohio bestselling author, Joylynn M. Jossel, hosted and treated lovers of the written word from across the map to an evening of entertainment beyond the typical book signing, author readings and Q&A sessions. There was a host of entrees; everything from stand-up comedy from a BET Comic View comic, poetry readings from a poet who appeared on The Apollo, a live band and an author spotlight featuring Essence Magazine bestselling authors. But what hadn’t originally been on the menu was a statement from a mother whose son was robbed of his life on Mother’s Day three years ago.

“My son touched many lives during his short time here on earth,” Ms. Morgan stated about her deceased son, Anthony Jamal Morgan, age eighteen at the time of his death. “Through his legacy, he’s still alive.” Through the Anthony Jamal Morgan “MANifest Your Destiny” Scholarship Foundation, Ms. Morgan’s son will sill continue touching lives. Each year a male student from Beechcroft High School is awarded a $2,000 college scholarship in Anthony’s name. Beechcroft is the school Anthony would have graduated from in only two weeks from the date of his murder that, as of this date, has gone unsolved.

Ms. Morgan was asked to read the dedication of one of the books featured at the Midwest Literary Feast titled Even Sinners Have Souls Too. Unbeknownst to the mother, the literary project had been dedicated in memory of her son. Several copies were given to Ms. Morgan and attendees were asked to purchase the books directly from her; one hundred percent of the sells benefiting the scholarship fund. Guests flocked to Ms. Morgan, relieving her of the books. Even when the books were sold, guests continued to write checks and place cash in Ms. Morgan’s hand to benefit the scholarship fund.

So far three recipients have been awarded scholarships thanks to the support of fundraisers and community donations. It is Ms. Morgan’s prayer that those recipients will not forget the community that helped support them, and in return, reach back and lend support themselves. Anthony Jamal Morgan, although no longer here in body, is still alive in spirit, and is still touching lives. For more information regarding the Anthony Jamal Moran Scholarship Fund, please write to P.O. Box 248750, Columbus, OH 43224. Any one with information regarding Anthony’s death can contact Crime Stoppers at 614-645-8477.

The Grace Card – The Movie

If we want more movies with Christian themes in the theaters, we have to show our support, especially during opening weekend. The Grace Card will be in theaters the early part of 2011.

About THE GRACE CARD

Everything can change in an instant … and take a lifetime to unravel.

When Mac McDonald loses his son in an accident, the ensuing 17 years of bitterness and pain erodes his love for his family and leaves him angry with God … and just about everyone else.

Mac’s rage stonewalls his career in the police department and makes for a combustible situation when he’s partnered with Sam Wright, a rising star on the force who happens to be a part-time pastor and a loving family man.

Mac’s home life is as frightening as anything he encounters on the streets of Memphis. Money is tight and emotions run high as he constantly argues with his wife and his surviving son Blake, who is hanging with the wrong crowd and in danger of flunking out of school.

Sam Wright also never expected to be a police officer. He has a calling—to be a minister like his Grandpa George. But leading a small, start-up church doesn’t always put enough food on the table for a young family, so Sam doubles as a police officer. With his new promotion to Sergeant, Sam starts questioning if his real calling might actually be police work rather than the pastorate.

Can Mac and Sam somehow join forces to help one another when it’s impossible for either of them to look past their differences—especially the most obvious one?

Every day, we have the opportunity to rebuild relationships and heal deep wounds by extending and receiving God’s grace. Offer THE GRACE CARD … and never underestimate the power of God’s love.
